Mobile Technology as part of the technology innovation series for CALRG
90 viewsWe are actively exploring a large number of mobile technologies and application software for mobiles in support of University objectives and research projects. Strands of activity include
1. Mobile devices for professional development
2. Mobile technologies for practise-based learning
3. VLE through mobile to support widening participation and increased participation.
4. Mobile technologies for scientific inquiry
5. Mobile technologies for field work and capture
6. Mobile technologies to support informal learning
We are doing this through a number of funded research projects. The types of technology we are using include Apple iPhone 3G, HTC S740 smartphones, Asus Eee 901 netbooks, Qtek 9100 smartphones etc. We are using specialist video capture technology from the Jennie Lee Labs to capture and analyse use of these devices.

In the Personal Inquiry project we've been using 30 x Asus Eee PC 701 models for the last two years. Happy to chat to anybody about our experiences with them out and about in school playgrounds and walking across towns collecting environment data, running our own software. So far we've done three major fieldwork trials with over 300 11-14 year olds.
