Karen Littleton explained an overall programme of "Thinking Together" for adoption by teachers of an approach that helps people gain speaking and thinking skils for "Exploratory Talk". The studies were based on looking at schools and the way that students advanced by looking at them pre and post-intervention by examining the occurrence of key terms related to reasoning in the transcripts. The examples of pre and control group dialogue was very short and simple without stretching the children, whereas the post intervention example showed a developed argument shared between the participants. The process involved teachers modelling the behaviour - again illustrated with sequence showing how the teacher brings in the groups in a class.
